WHAT THIS DOCUMENT IS
---------------------

This is Schedule 1 to the SureMatters Terms of Service, published at
https://surematters.com/terms. This Schedule and those Terms are one
agreement, not two.

This is not a summary. The provisions below are the operative terms, in the
same words as the Terms. Where this Schedule is silent, the Terms apply in
full.

YOUR LICENCE
------------

Subject to your compliance with this agreement and payment of any applicable
fees, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable,
revocable licence to install and use the software.

You may not:

  - reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, except so far
    as the law expressly permits;
  - modify, distribute, sublicense, sell, lease or rent the software or any
    part of it;
  - remove, alter or obscure any proprietary notices;
  - use the software to break the law, infringe anyone's rights, or process
    personal data unlawfully;
  - circumvent any technical measure we apply to enforce this agreement,
    including licence verification.

We may revoke the licence, without refund of amounts already accrued, if you
materially breach this agreement and do not remedy the breach within 30 days
of written notice.

PLEASE READ THIS PART — IT LIMITS WHAT YOU CAN CLAIM FROM US
------------------------------------------------------------

These two sections limit our liability to you and exclude warranties that
would otherwise apply. They are set out here, rather than only on our
website, so that you see them before you accept.

Limitation of liability (section 8 of the Terms)

  To the extent the law permits, our total liability to you under or in
  connection with these Terms is limited to the amounts you paid us in the
  twelve months before the event giving rise to the liability.

  We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or
  punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of business opportunity,
  or loss of data.

  Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud or
  fraudulent misrepresentation, for death or personal injury caused by our
  negligence, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Warranties and disclaimers (section 9 of the Terms)

  We warrant that the products will substantially conform to their published
  documentation.

  We do not warrant that the products will meet your particular
  requirements, that they will operate without interruption, or that they
  will detect every item you may wish to redact. The products surface
  candidates for your decision; the decision, and the disclosure, remain
  yours.

  Except for the warranties in this section and the commitments in section 5
  of the Terms, the products are provided "as is", and to the extent the law
  permits we exclude all other warranties, conditions and terms implied by
  statute or common law.

WHAT WE COMMIT TO IN RETURN
---------------------------

The Terms contain commitments that bind us and are worth reading before you
accept — in particular that your documents stay on your own devices and are
never sent to any third-party artificial-intelligence service, that you make
every final redaction decision, and that we will not change any of those
commitments without notice and a right to leave. They are set out in section
5 of the Terms.

OTHER TERMS
-----------

Pricing, payment, refunds, privacy, software updates, disputes and governing
law are dealt with in the Terms and are not repeated here.

Third-party components bundled with the desktop application are licensed
separately by their respective authors; their licences and notices are set
out in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md, which accompanies every distributed build.
